Marble is a bright, white metamorphic rock. This rock is formed through a metamorphic process of sedimentary rocks such as limestone and dolomite. It's very appreciated because of its brilliance which is due to the low index of calcite refraction, which allows light to penetrate deeply into the stone and make it very bright. Other than being used for sculptures, it is also used in construction because of its aesthetic beauty, especially in finishing works such as floor or sometimes wall coatings. Being marble a porous material it easily tends to absorb oily substances, which is why it is sometimes treated with special protective substances.
